Home › Forums › Social Lounge › No Market For James Taylor
40 years ago I was sitting in the office of a record company executive playing some of my songs. I was told they were very good but there was no market for the James Taylor style that I was writing. It had to be disco or punk. I pointed out that James Taylor seemed to have a market but was told that was unlikely to last. Like an idiot I followed that advice.
Here we are forty years later and he is going as strong as ever. Fortunately I am now in a position to record whatever I want so on my latest album I have included a song dedicated to the great man and the true story behind it.
Not all people are intended to become famous,or even to have their songs heard by the millions. Music is an expression of emotion,of circumstance. My songs will live on LONG after I’m gone, but the satisfaction of knowing I was able to put that pen to paper is all that matters. Remember, we don’t write songs,we only write them down. Good job on being able to follow your heart.
