ParticipantI don’t know if he wrote new songs. But I hope he did …
An new album from James would be a real present in these uncertain times.14 September 2024 at 3:45 am #252587Fabrizio
ParticipantOld story. I personally started a topic here about “new material” and “too long waiting” more than twenty years ago, and the lively discussions that followed here didn’t take too many good roads. And after all these years here we are again. We all know that poetic and melodic inspiration isn’t fired simply pressing a button, and we all know that aging isn’t often a solid stepping stone like in our youth. But… as someone before me wrote here in this topic – especially in these troubling hard times – we shall enjoy all just a new song, maybe a new album sometime in a near future, any news of new projects from our dearest minstrel friend. And we all know he knows too. Let’s keep on waitin’.

ParticipantBob Dylan in a famous interview on 60 Minutes many years ago candidly admitted that he no longer has the creative juice that he had during his early years. I think that happens to a lot of the songwriters that we love, perhaps including James Taylor himself. I know that one of my favorites, Paul McCartney, in my estimation has dwindled in his creative talent in the last couple of decades in terms of writing inspired songs. It’s not that James Taylor has not written anything good in the last couple of decades – I really like Whenever You’re Ready which was one of his last songs before he stopped writing new material, but the other songs on the album are, while fairly good, not stellar as his songs used to be back in the days of yore. Anyway, I hope James goes back to the drawing board and tries to come up with some new stuff. I would recommend to him that he experiment and even do goofy things in order to dislodge some of the ossification that may have accrued in his increasingly comfortable retirement years.
