Rolling Stone Quote
The December 30 issue of Rolling Stone included this quote from JT about his heroes:
“If I have to choose one person I looked up to the most or get the most from, I’d have to say Ray Charles. Such a genius, and so soulful, and yet so accessible. I’m always borrowing heavily from the people I like and trying to sound like them as much as I possibly can as they fall through the narrow window of my technique: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Bonnie Raitt. I love “Our Love Is Here to Stay”, by the Gershwins and “Penny Lane” by Lennon-McCartney. I love Randy Newman – have you heard “Shame,” on his new album? Can you f***’n believe that thing? Unbelievable! He stepped up to the plate and knocked it out. But for me, it all comes right back to Ray Charles.” [Thanks to Cheryl Munson]
